DOUGLAS COUNTY was created on November 25, 1861. It is one of the original nine counties. COUNTY SEAT: Minden - incorporated March 4, 1917. ORIGIN OF NAME: Douglas County was named after Stephen A. Douglas, a noted political figure in the mid 1800's and chairman of the Committee on Territories. He died in 1861.
