The Wilson Cliffs, approximately 10 miles long, are a part of the Red Rock Canyon and the Spring Mountain Range. The Wilson Cliffs are made up of red, pink, and tan sandstone mountains that come abruptly off the valley floor. The sandstone in the Wilson Cliffs acts as a big sponge absorbing water either through rain or melted snow. That water will travel through the sandstone toward the bottom and then emerge along the base in the form of springs and streams. The cliffs end at the valley floor, which we call Cottonwood Valley.
The Fremont Expedition as well as some of the early Mormon pioneers traveled through this valley on their way to Los Angles from Salt Lake City.
